After first showing up in a Grindhouse trailer, Danny Trejo’s craggy Mex-cernary is back for another extended adventure, called in by the President (Charlie, cough, Sheen) to take down a wannabe Bond villain.
A baggy first half makes you think the joke’s been stretched too far, but Mel Gibson’s nutty bad-guy turn is worth sticking around for, and director Robert Rodriguez’s usual slew of inventive kills zaps any chance of boredom.
The real highlight, though, is a trailer for Machete Kills Again… In Space, so maybe he should stick to short and sweet in future.
