Another spooky horror produced by Guillermo del Toro

Another title to add to Guillermo del Toro’s horror-producing credits, this kid-centric spooker is sadly nearer to Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark than The Orphanage.

Expanded from director Andy Muschietti’s 2008 short (included on the Blu-ray, with intro by GDT), it sees two abandoned girls put into the care of their uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his punk-rock girlfriend (Jessica Chastain) but is something sinister also watching over them?

An unsettling first act quickly fizzles into a torrent of tired boo-scares that show too much of the monster, too often.
