Kathy Bates is James Caan's number one fan in the taut Stephen King adaptation

Shedding some of the sillier bits from Stephen King’s bestseller, William Goldman’s taut, claustrophobic script is among the best adaptations of the horror maestro.

James Caan plays the novelist who crashes outside the wrong house, waking up tied to the bed of his ‘number one fan’.

Confining most of the torturous tension to just two people and one room, it’s director Rob Reiner’s darkest hour.

But it’s Kathy Bates’ Oscar-winning turn as a smiling psychopath that still provides the film’s cold, cold heart and makes for one of cinema’s greatest, friendliest, monsters.
