Telepathic teen sleepwalks through the Swiss countryside

BUTCHERED IN ’85, DARIO ARGENTO’S vivid but uneven shocker has been restored to gory glory for Blu-ray. It’s still a frustrating movie of two halves: Jennifer Connelly’s telepathic teen sleepwalks through the Swiss countryside communicating with insects while a killer decapitates her boarding-school classmates.

“It was the start of a very different, even more fantastic cinema for Dario,” claims a regular collaborator (who clearly hasn’t seen Suspiria) on the 50-minute Making Of. Argento himself discusses killing his daughter in the dynamite opening and we learn how to get a million flies to swarm over a midget monster.
