Universal’s 100th anniversary restorations continue with this Doris Day comedy, finally wiped free of soot for HD.
Notable for its use of split-screen, it stars Rock Hudson as a scheming jingle composer forced to share Day’s telephone ‘party line’; before long, a connection develops.
It’s easy to spot the seeds for 2003’s Down With Love, but this is zappier, its star chemistry and warm colours going down like a strong daiquiri (as do the extras, where the surviving crew recount the film’s style and spark).
Think Mad Men without the dark undercurrents.
