Gerard Butler's soccer drama hits it wide

Gerard Butler’s ex-Liverpool striker has less of a character arc than an amble in this predictable if pretty family drama.

‘King’ George Dryer relocates to suburban Virginia to be near his young son after a series of failed business ventures leave him bankrupt; taking on coaching duties, he shags his way through all the love-starved soccer moms (Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman) with little consequence, inevitably arriving back at the door of his ex (Jessica Biel).

There’s a brief flash of the Gerry six-pack but no notable laughs, though Gabriele Muccino’s lensing of Little League like a UEFA final is mildly amusing.
