Chewier than most Disney Princess fare

Pummelled on release for its historical inaccuracies and PC revisionism, this well-executed drama is due a reappraisal.

Chewier than most Disney Princess fare thanks to the ‘Colours Of The Wind’ eco-theme, anti-racist messages and bittersweet love story, it boasts agile voice-work from Mel Gibson’s John Smith and David Ogden Stiers’ odious Governor Ratcliffe. Ignore the trite Grandmother Willow and the cute critters, and home in instead on the forest-hues palate and smart songs.
