Point Break

Surfers with attitude...

Point break review

Before she swiped Oscars for The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow made subversive pulp fictions about sub-cultures: bikers (The Loveless), vampires (Near Dark).

This Jim Cameron-produced actioner finds FBI lummox Keanu Reeves going undercover among beach-Yoda Patrick Swayze’s posse of bank-robbing Zen surfers.

Bigelow maxes a fetishistic froth of pumped abs and pumping guns, surfing action cinema’s homoerotic tides with panache.

Hilarious ham Gary Busey adds to the stupid-clever fun but with muted colours and average extras, the BD upgrade adds little.
