Having seen off bane and battled a Bruce Willis-shaped future version of himself last year, riding a bike with no brakes across Manhattan is a lowering of the stakes for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who’s nevertheless game in this insubstantial courier thriller.
Breakneck traffic rides and New York photography aside, the film’s big plus is an off-kilter turn from Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon as the huffing bent-cop villain, whose eye-rolling pantomime gives the more earnestverging- on-lame adrenaline-junkie stylings something to bounce off dramatically.
Even so, for a rising star like JG-L, it’s all a bit toothless and ordinary.
