Patrick Swayze leads a band of guerilla teens

Released at the height of Cold War paranoia, John Milius’ actioner was reactionary, right-wing propaganda.

Post-9/11, however, a small band of mountain-dwelling US teens’ (led by Patrick Swayze) guerrilla warfare against occupying forces borders on the subversive.

Still, that’s no reason to revisit this Republican wet dream, which forgoes background, story and character development for a tedious montage of explosions and gunfire, severing investment in the cause or the fate of those involved.

Pray the remake’s better.
