Requiem For A Dream

A must watch film on the destruction that follows drug addiction

Requiem for a Dream review

Darren Aronofsky’s second film is often filed next to Irreversible on the ‘great-film-too-grim-to-see-twice’ shelf.

The story – a junkie and his mum, pal and gal are brought down by addiction – is so didactic it makes Reefer Madness look subtle, but the joy here is in the execution.

Thirsty young ones Aronofsky, DP Matthew Libatique and composer Clint Mansell all excel, and turn what could’ve been glib and shrill into one of the most wrenching cinematic experiences of recent times.
