“There are bad days, and then there are legendary bad days,” growls slaphead hardman Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel) as he’s stranded on an inhospitable planet and chased by CG beasties.
The third entry in the hard-to-kill Riddick franchise opens like Robinson Crusoe then morphs into The Most Dangerous Game in reverse as the Big Vin takes on 11 bounty hunters.
Series vet David Twohy adds grit and gristle – and some very dodgy “banter” directed at Katee Sackhoff’s lesbian merc – before lazily re-treading Pitch Black.
It’s less a belated sequel than a desperately unsuccessful attempt to rediscover long lost magic. Even the die-hard Diesel-heads will leave disappointed.
