Roger Dodger

Jesse Eisenberg's debut has aged well

Before Michael Fassbender brought Shame to New York’s dating scene, it was ruled by the shameless Roger Swanson (Campbell Scott), a cynical ad exec who deploys pop psychology to prove that “sex is everywhere.”

But when he tries to teach the art of seduction to virginal nephew Nick (Jesse Eisenberg, fully formed in his debut), Roger’s predatory methods are exposed.

With insights into sexism driven by whiplash dialogue and Scott’s full-throttle performance, the film has dated only in the sight of smoking in bars.
