Though comic John Bishop plays a key part in Ken Loach’s latest, don’t expect laughs from this typically indignant, sometimes heavy-handed critique of the role of private security contractors in Iraq.
It’s ostensibly a thriller about Fergus (Mark Womack), a mourning merc who unveils a conspiracy when he probes beneath the official explanation for his best mate’s death on the Baghdad thoroughfare of the title.
Yet Loach has bigger fish to fry, his fury at the injustice carried out in our name manifesting in a waterboarding scene that’s as tough to watch as it was to shoot.
