Restyling another bestseller into a harmless romcom, Lasse Hallström has become a sweet old uncle no-one really listens to.
Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt drift amiably through a romance about an uptight, repressed civil servant and an uptight, repressed consultant tasked with bringing British fish to the arid Arabian republic.
As a gentle Sunday-afternooner it’s charming enough, but the damp script misses the warmth and quirkiness that Hallström used to be known for.
