“You don’t need any of my gear, so jog on!” spits resident hardcase The Bear (Tony Jayawardena) to resident nutcase Truman (Noel Clarke) in Reg Traviss’ gritty prison drama. Anyone seeking some polish to go with the posturing might well feel the same.
A shaky James D’Arcy plays Sam, a rookie warder whose colleagues are more dangerous than the prisoners, and the film proves similarly schizophrenic.
Jail sequences are convincingly claustrophobic, but Sam’s domestic dramas are insultingly rote.
No doubt the cast will soon be hurrying on to better things.
