Silent House

This horror remake's key selling point is Elizabeth Olsen

Women-with-issues-in-houses-with-histories flicks have become a subgenre this year (The Pact, Lovely Molly) but two things distinguish this American remake of a high-concept Uruguayan horror.

The first is a lead turn from Elizabeth Olsen that confirms her as a world-class talent.

The second is the fact that it’s shot – ostensibly at least – in a single take.

Although Olsen makes a sympathetic guide, and the formal gimmickry proves effective, severe plot deficiencies eventually turn a spooky ghost walk into a wild goose chase.
