It didn’t make the numbers of F&F6, G.I. Joe: Retaliation or even Pain & Gain, but Snitch offers Dwayne Johnson’s best turn in a Rockin’ year. Based, kind of, on a true story, it sees the big man’s construction boss infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel so he can serve names to a ball-breaking DA (Susan Sarandon).
In return he’ll secure the release of his unjustly arrested teenage son.
Snitch comes with a smidgeon of emotion, strong supports (The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal, Barry Pepper’s goatee…) and a pleasing amount of slow-burn suspense, though stuntman-turned-director Ric Roman Waugh resorts to generic action in a turbulent third act.
