Don Cheadle is gifted a perfect leading role as Petey Greene, the charismatic shock jock who brought Black Power to the airwaves in the ’60s.
Greene’s rise to fame is punchy, pertinent and funny, thanks largely to Cheadle’s odd couple pairing with Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Sadly, Kasi Lemmons’ overly conventional biopic gradually runs out of steam; Greene’s iconoclastic life just doesn’t suit the trite three-act arc she’s saddled him with.
