Nearly a decade on, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s post-9/11 puppet show should be a museum piece.
Instead, it’s grown in stature as arguably cinema’s most trenchant satire on modern politics and an outrageously creative, quotable comedy-musical.
Offensive? Immature? Fuck yeah! Therein lies its (sometimes scattershot) genius, as the South Park boys use shaggin’, swearin’ marionettes to flay macho neo-cons, hand-wringing liberals and insane dictators, AKA “dicks, pussies and assholes.”
Oh, and it’s a spot-on assault on action movie clichés and subtexts.
