This is a film of might have- beens.
What would Danny Boyle, once attached to direct, have made of the otherworldly Texan outback?
How would producer Michael Mann have managed the relationship between driven detectives Sam Worthington and Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
Instead it’s Mann’s daughter Ami in the chair, who struggles to tease the material to life, making too little of the contrast between Morgan’s obsessive out-of-towner and Worthington’s focused local.
We’re left with a fuzzy backwards abduction drama with lots of trademark Worthington wincing and a sense it could’ve been more.
