After dealing with has-beens in Lost In Translation and screw-ups in Somewhere, it’s the turn of wannabes in Sofia Coppola’s latest look at the corrosive effects of celebrity.
Emma Watson is on fine form as one of the real-life gang of LA teens who stalked their idols then robbed their homes.
But scratch beneath the diamante-studded surface, and what could’ve been a searing satirical snapshot instead feels decidedly tame, especially compared with Spring Breakers.
You’ll crack a few smiles, mainly at Paris Hilton’s real life mansion, and the media-circus third act ends things on a high note.
But by Coppola’s standards, The Bling Ring is so, like, whatever.
