Whatever you make of Cormac McCarthy’s debut screenplay, he peppers it with some brain-searing moments: Cameron Diaz humping a windscreen, for one.
Ridley Scott directs slickly but you sense even he doesn’t fully understand this globetrotting tale where the characters speak in riddles (yes, Brad Pitt, we mean you).
Michael Fassbender, as the titular legal eagle sucked into a world of shady deals and violence, clings on for dear life, while Javier Bardem adds another coiffure crim to his CV.
It’s authentic McCarthy, just not vintage.
