Its easy to compare this tale of Mossad agents with Spielberg’s Munich, but The Debt is its own movie: a multi-generational story following a mission to capture the “surgeon of Birkenau” (Jesper Christensen, the creepiest on-screen Nuremberg dodger since Olivier in Marathon Man).
Cutting between a botched ’60s mission in east Berlin and the present where the survivors bear heavy loads, The Debt makes much of its young/old same-role casting, pairing on-form Jessica Chastain and Helen mirren across the decades.
