The Essential Jacques Tati

5

Six fantastic Tati classics

Often dismissed at the missing link between Charlie Chaplin and Mr Bean, French slapstick genius Jacques Tati gets the reappraisal he deserves with this boxset containing all six of his features and seven shorts.

It’s hard to pick highlights, given the quality on offer, but start with 1958’s Mon Oncle, a mix of sentiment and wily consumer satire that sums up Tati’s work perfectly.

Extras are overly academic and analytical which, given the accessibility of Tati’s work, is an odd choice – not everything French is high-falutin’.
