The idea of Con Air co-leads Nicolas Cage and John Cusack reuniting on screen is a lot more fun than anything in this glum procedural, which dramatises the pursuit and arrest of a real-life serial killer responsible for the deaths of up to 21 women in ’70s Alaska.
A grim-faced Cage plays it straight as the dogged cop who identifies Vanessa Hudgens’ baby-faced stripper as the key to bringing Cusack’s murderer to book.
Sadly, not enough is made of the case’s chilling true elements to make this debut feature from writer/director Scott Walker anything more than a blandly efficient rehash.
