The Fury

3

Well, it's certainly moving...

Brian De Pa lma’s follow-up to Carrie keeps the telekinetic kid but swaps tampons and girl power for a psy-spy caper.

Kirk Douglas stars as a dad whose mind-bending son is seized by shadowy spooks (led by a deliciously nefarious John Cassavetes), and De Palma stages superb set pieces, including a slo-mo foot chase and a man telekinetically exploding like a watermelon.

Sadly, he doesn’t seem to care about the illogical pulp plotting and can’t match the low-rent grittiness of Cronenberg’s later Scanners.

Remastered, with an interview with cinematographer Richard H. Kline, this disc draws a blank on De Palma himself.
