Mocking magicians is as well-trodden comic trodden comic territory as chickens crossing roads, so Don Scardino’s Vegas comedy isn’t exactly a mould-breaker.
Still, did it have to be this safe and familiar?
Steves Carell and Buscemi work hard as a long-running but fast-fading double act, and Jim Carrey is flamboyant fun as the street performer out to usurp them.
But there’s no narrative sleight of hand to keep you on your toes and the showbiz satire slips from fresh to stale.
More mediocre than incredible.
