The Ledge

A man intends to jump from a building, while a cop tries to talk him down

A guy (Charlie Hunnam) stands on the ledge of a tall building, intending to jump at noon, while a cop (Terrence Howard) tries to talk him down – and as the minutes tick by, flashbacks explain why he’s obliged to jump against his will.

The set-up’s overly contrived but the tension’s well maintained, with committed turns from Hunnam, Howard, Liv Tyler (vulnerable as Hunnam’s lover) and Patrick Wilson, scarily intense as the latter’s born-again husband.

And how often do you see a Holly-movie where atheism comes out better than religion?
