The Pact

3

Creaky set up, but the furnishings are fresh...

Tough biker chick Annie (Caity Lotz) receives news that her physically abusive mum has died. Shortly thereafter, her estranged sister goes missing. Annie travels to her family home to look for her, and all hell, literally, breaks loose.

Bucking the current horror trend of 'found footage' jump scares, The Pact opts for slow-boiling dread, reminiscent of less-is-more ghost-busters like Amityille Horror or The Entity.

Lead screamer Lotz makes for a savvy horror heroine, and to first-time director Nicholas McCarthy's credit, The Pact feels as realistic as a creaky old haunted house story possibly can. A solid chiller.
