The Rebound

A leaden lesson in love...

The Rebound review

Catherine Zeta-Jones delivers sizzle but there’s no steak in Bart Freundlich’s likeable but toothless romcom, in which her 40-ish housewife swaps a cheating husband for a life with Justin Bartha’s fresh-faced "Manny".

Zeta-Jones shows off her comic chops with a brio that enlivens the parade of bad dates, cute family interludes and ill-judged slapstick.

But Bartha's amiability comes off as boyish weediness, and The Rebound wilts into a leaden, lesson-laden travelogue just when you’re praying for a fun, frothy finale.
