Ecclesiastical epics don’t get bigger than Cecil DeMille’s 220-minute Godbuster, shot in VistaVision with Charlton Heston’s granite-jawed Moses leading the proverbial cast of thousands.
Partly shot on location in Egypt, its story of the Israelites’ exodus to the Promised Land has no less heft than the stone tablets Moses brings down from Mount Sinai.
Blu-ray lets the Technicolor palette shine, but also exposes the dated effects, especially the back-projected parting of the Red Sea.
Whoever tackles Moses next – Spielberg? Ridley Scott? – will treat this as gospel. Skimpy extras for such a big flick.
