The War Of The Roses

4

Divorce gets messy for Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner

After two outings as Romancing The Stone’s Jack Colton and Joan Wilder, Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner went for broke with a darkly comic story of a marriage imploding that might well be the only film in which an Oscar-winning actor pisses on fish.

Set almost wholly within the Roses’ mansion home, an upscale residence neither is willing to relinquish, Danny DeVito’s cautionary tale comes with enough bile and cynicism to make for a thoroughly dispiriting experience.

Yet the two leads battle with such gusto that it is fun to be sitting at ringside with Danny himself, as the family friend cum omniscient narrator.
