A walk to remember...

In this periodic epic, Mia Wasikowska plays travel writer Robyn Davidson, who traversed the deserts of western Australia in 1977. Travelling with four camels and her dog, her only human contact comes in the occasional meetings with photojournalist Rick Smolan (Adam Driver). It’s sumptuously mounted by director John Curran (The Painted Veil), capturing the beauty and danger of the endless sand, but despite the blazing heat, it all feels somewhat cold.

Wasikowska is a beguiling presence, but her Davidson is so closed off it’s difficult to truly invest. The natural beastliness of the camels is impressively captured though.
