Weekend At Bernie's

Juvenile gags still knock 'em dead?

Twenty years on, this fondly remembered comedy creaks on arrival. It’s puerile stuff as two slackers (Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman, the B-Team Bill and Ted) babysit the corpse of their crooked boss Bernie (Terry Kiser in a thankless role). Spending the weekend in his Hamptons mansion, they try to convince his buddies he’s still alive even as rigor mortis sets in.

Some of the gags flatline but there are guffaws to be had involving dead-but-floppy Bernie having his toupee stapled on or being rigged up to pulleys to make his arms wave. The Blu-ray disc, sporting a lone trailer, is a limp effort, mind. How to get animated about such a soulless package?
