Weird Science

A few steps above an imaginary girlfriend

One of John Hughes’ less-fanfared classics finally makes it to R2 Blu, giving newbies a chance to catch one of Tony Stark’s fledgling outings before producer Joel Silver remakes it next year.

RDJ plays the bane of teen nerds Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt’s (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) lives, prompting them to Frankenstein up a girlfriend (Kelly Le Brock) and unleash high school chaos.

Cultish, bonkers, with a knowing turn from Brock, Weird Science may be Hughes dialled down but it’s still pure ’80s gold that’s unfairly overlooked.
