Witty belated sequel for the Khans

West is West review

This belated follow-up to 1999 Britcom East Is East revisits the Khan family in ’70s Salford… and with barely time for a Jimi Mistry cameo, takes off for Pakistan.

Troubled patriarch George (Om Puri) spirits delinquent son Sajid to the homeland to learn some tradition while he makes amends to the family he abandoned. Too little, too late?

Many would say the same about a sequel few were clamouring for. Fortunately, screenwriter Ayub Khan-Din’s charming if lightweight Northern wit remains intact, especially when delivered by ace debutant Aqib Khan as potty-mouthed Sajid.
