The intervening 50 years have been mildly unkind: this Romeo And Juliet update’s street slang now verges on hilarious, while the innocent portrait of gang warfare strains to convince.
Still, there are several showstoppers truly worthy of the name and Jerome Robbins’ choreography is sensational.
