Meet Mike Paul Giamatti. A cash-strapped lawyer who fleeces an elderly client, manipulates a runaway teen (impressive newcomer Alex Shaffer) to live vicariously as a wrestling coach and fibs to his family.
He, and this slow-burn smirk-inducer, shouldn’t be likeable or funny.
But in the hands of a talented cast, a sweet/sour story arc and writer/director Tom McCarthy’s (The Station Agent) whimsical eye for detail, Win Win is like Mike’s bumbling road to epiphany – a series of small, homespun triumphs that create stealth heartwarm.
