Wreck-It Ralph

3

All he wants is a shiny gold medal and people to call his friends

Disney approaches peak-form Pixar levels with Simpsons director Rich Moore’s giddy gaming adventure.

The action focuses on what happens when arcades close, a Toy Story echo extended in wittily realised game-worlds, blink/miss sight gags and the droll portrayal of good-inside 8-bit baddie Ralph’s (John C. Reilly) Buzz-style identity crisis.

Some in-jokes will please nostalgic Nintendo-nauts more than kids, but the perky pace, astute casting and kindly take on outsider bonds – between Ralph and girl racer Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) – will appeal to all.

Can we play again?

Solid extras, glistening BD.
