1: Life On The Limit

4

Racing doc nails a winning Formula...

Picking up where Senna and Rush left off, this thorough documentary on the early days of F1 offers vicarious entertainment for Top Gear enthusiasts and motor racing novices alike.

Yet it also serves as a testament to the many drivers who lost their lives at a time when the pursuit of glory superseded health and safety issues. Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda lead a starry cast of talking heads in a well-researched survey boosted further by Michael Fassbender’s unflashy narration.

For obvious reasons, though, it’s the scenes showing a hale and hearty Michael Schumacher that leave the most lasting impression.

Yep, watched it last night. Although I'm a big F1 fan and knew all about the history anyway, I still enjoyed it a great deal. Some new archive footage even I hadn't seen and lots of new interviews. Well done indeed, although Senna pips it for emotional intensity.

Oh yeah, and here's hoping Michael can make a full recovery. We're all rooting for you, sir!
