20th Century Boys

3

Japanese comic book arrives on screen

Kenji (Toshiaki Karasawa) is an ex-pop star working in his family's store when the dark Book Of Prophecies he and his childhood friends dreamt up starts coming true.

Based on a Japanese comic book, 20th Century Boys whisks wacko cults, city-stomping robots and the power of rock'n'roll into a bizarre brew that will delight converts but possibly bewilder the uninitiated.

Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi uncorks punchy magna visuals but also plods through events like he's unsure how to stir the flavours together, leaving most of the mysteries hanging for an already in-the-can sequel.

Saw this at the Leeds International Film Festival in November - it's very entertaining, but let down by the last 20 minutes being pretty much just a black screen. For most of this period you can't tell what's happening, so it spoiled the experience, otherwise it would have been a star higher.

I think we need to bring more ideas for this purpose. Involvement of young people can be handy in this regard. I am happy to find a good post here. Thank you birthday greetings
