Sean Bean and Danny Dyer fail to add much charisma to this sentimental war flick

Age of Heroes review

Sean Bean and Danny Dyer are outlaws of a different kind in this corny World War II actioner about ‘30 Commando’, an “elite smash and grab unit” set up by Ian Fleming (who he?) for search-and-destroy missions behind enemy lines.

Whether the real regiment would have recruited an insubordinate lout like Dyer’s Corporal Rains is up for debate.

But Bean does, springing him from military lock-up for a Norwegian raid which has director Adrian Vitoria ransacking Where Eagles Dare and The Guns Of Navarone for every gung-ho, Boy’s Own cliché available.

Two sequels are planned, God help us.

I have have misunderstood, but did you really ask who Ian Fleming is? For a supposed movie review site, your lack of knowledge is quite astounding. Still wondering who he is? he is the author of James Bond.....

Ian Fleming (who he?)....Really???? Ian Fleming is the man behind James Bond. Before this he was a Naval Intelligence Office during WW2 in which time he created the 30 Assault Unit (which this movie is based) this unit was the predecessor to what we know today as the SAS. You should really do your research before you write your so-called reviews

I have to agree with the 2 previous comments made by Parky47 & dafjones13 , just not knowing who Ian Flemming is & what Ian Fleming's 30 Commando unit are & who they are now is an insult to the history of how the war was fought. You Don't know your history you have no Idea why they did what they did honestly an “elite smash and grab unit” Your own words. Neil Smith You don't deserve this review SHAME on you.

At first glance, I thought the (who he?) bit was a roundabout attempt at tongue and cheek, but I now have my doubts. To not know who Ian Fleming is, as a "critic", is unacceptable. It may be an absolutely s**t film, but an extra couple of paragraphs on why so, would have been helpful. Instead we get a "Smash and grab" (I left out the Elite part) paltry attempt at a review. I had to register, simply to register my disgust. This is the worst review I've ever seen in my life. No wonder I opt for Empire. 0/5 Stars!
