Singer Jolene (Charlotte Ritches) and guitarist Benny (Craig Roberts) could be the next “indie folk sensation,” were it not for bad management, a philistine record label and the duo’s hesitant feelings towards each other. Jamie Adams’ Britcom faces a similar struggle.
While inevitably recalling This Is Spinal Tap, Adams’ slack skits lack the rigorous verisimilitude of Rob Reiner’s classic; the contradictory, implausible portrait of the band never resolves how famous they are.
Even as a hipster rom-com it’s too reliant on rambling improv and superfluous quirks to sustain its sporadic laughs.
