Into The Arms Of Strangers: Stories Of The Kindertransport

4

Made with the Washington Holocaust Museum, this diligently crafted doc chronicles a humanitarian rescue mission during one of the darkest periods in 20th-century history.

As a result of the brutal anti-Semitic persecution in central Europe during the late '30s, 10,000 Jewish children were evacuated to England, to be placed in foster homes. The young refugees expected their parents to join them, only for war to erupt...

Narrated by Judi Dench, Into The Arms Of Strangers includes interviews with survivors alongside archive news footage, pictures and reconstructions. Given the current prejudice towards asylum seekers, it's timely that the poignant memories of an earlier generation of refugees are expressed. The miracle is how these individuals overcame such appalling early traumas to lead productive adult lives.
