Ip Man (15)

The story of a martial arts master

Beaming like a belligerent Buddha throughout this no-fun kung fu epic, Donnie Yen plays the eponymous Wing Chun master, who stove off hunger, poverty and half the Japanese army during China’s WW2 occupation – by kicking ass!

Unfortunately, Man’s extraordinary biography makes for an awkward, inauthentic-feeling biopic.

The historical aspects are grey and lack gravity, the performances are broad bordering on widescreen and too many of the retro action sequences involve ageing HK stars slapping the chuff out of stunt doubles while the supporting cast gawp and gurn.

Surely the man who taught Bruce Lee deserves better?

Do not go by the above review it is poor at best and is no way a true reflection of this movie!!!!! I see this movie has got quite a bad review and had to add my two bob's worth….. Do not believe anything you read above who ever has knocked this up either has not seen this movie or has a very strange idea of what makes a good kung fu movie…. So ok it is not that close to the real story and yet Ip man was a police officer which the story does not touch on but for action and a true display of wing Chun you really cannot go wrong this movie is amazing and worth every penny and a must for kung fu fans all over…. I would go as far as saying it is one of the best kung fu movies I have seen in years and would make most top 10 kung fu movie list taking in to account that kung fu movies have really come a long way from the days of set movies and very little story!!! If you want a kung fu movie that does what it says on the tin go and see this and then buy it…. I had it imported over 5 moths ago and everyone I have shown it too has loved every min off it even a few guys that do Wing Chun have seen it and said it is by far the closest to the form they have seen in a movie!!! A big fat 4 and a half stars at least…. Total film sort it out please this is a very poor review for an amazing Kung Fu movie…
