Produced by Guillermo Del Toro, this Spanish chiller flaunts some of his style, if not his storytelling strengths.
Julia (Belén Rueda, brilliant) believes her twin sister was murdered. As she inches towards the truth, her eyesight starts to fade – and the killer closes in.
After a shaky opening act, Julia’s Eyes jumps to life. Director Guillem Morales pulls off at least one must-see: a virtuoso sequence evoking Julia’s blindness, with nearly every shot locked onto Rueda’s face.
Shame, then, that after hitting such heights, Morales is dragged down by a silly climax. You won’t believe your eyes…
