Leave It On The Dance Floor

2

A musical celebrating US dancehall culture.

Director Sheldon Larry's musical celebrates US dancehall culture, where black gays and drag queens glam up and fiercely compete for trophies with the ‘vogueing’ moves Madonna made famous.

After his mum kicks him out, 22-year-old Brad (Ephraim Sykes) seeks a new sense of belonging in the scene’s ‘House of Eminence’ surrogate family.

The film’s inspired by legendary doc Paris Is Burning – but unlike that glorious 1990 tribute, its cliched love-triangle melodrama and low-budget gleam can’t quite get the party started, despite song bursts ranging from ballads to hip-hop and house.
