Like Someone In Love

Abbas Kiarostami's best film in years

The filmic equivalent of a beguiling novella, Iranian writer/director Abbas Kiarostami’s (Certified Copy) film is a tale of mistaken identities revolving around three characters: sociology student and part-time escort Akiko (Rin Takanashi); her jealous garage mechanic boyfriend Noriaki (Ryo Kase); and a client of Akiko’s, elderly widowed academic Takashi (Tadashi Okuno).

Elegantly shot in a series of enclosed spaces, Like Someone In Love explores familiar Kiarostami themes – how we slip between roles in our relationships – with a terrifically light touch, making for his best since 1999’s The Wind Will Carry Us.
