An insightful portrait of the Austrian auteur

“I’m something of a control freak,” admits Michael Haneke in this timely exploration, an insightful portrait of the Austrian auteur that combines footage of him piecing together scenes from Amour, The White Ribbon and Code Unknown with typically brusque interviews.

“I don’t want to answer questions that make me interpret myself,” he grumbles, though he does concede later it’s his own terror of suffering that makes him so good at depicting it.

But it’s hard to top the hissy fit we see Béatrice Dalle throw at a Time Of The Wolf photo call.
